Most Common Types of Gynecologic Cancers

• Endometrical/Uterine is the most common GYN cancer. The primary symptom of endometrical cancer is abnormal bleeding.
  
• Ovarian cancer is the second most common GYN cancer. Since there are no effective screening tests, one must be aware of the earliest symptoms of ovarian cancer.
  
• Cervical cancer has been steadily increasing in incidence with the increased prevalence of pap smear screening. We encourage you to get an annual pap smear.
  

Signs and Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

• Because the signs and symptoms of GYN cancers may also be associated with other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, it is important that your physician take seriously the possibility that ovarian cancer may be present, especially if you have a family or personal history of ovarian, breast, or colon cancer, and have never borne children.
  

MotherWalk 2008

The Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation held its 5th annual MOTHERWALK on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Many CanSurvive ladies, staff members from the UAB GYN Oncology office, and their family members participated in this community-wide walk. CanSurvive also had an awareness table.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life Blount Co. chapter was held at the Oneonta City Park on April 25, 2008. Their were 23 teams that participated this year for a combined total funds raised of $87,000.00. Their were several ladies from our CanSurvive group that particated and were part of the Flavor-Pic Tomato Team which raised $19,500.00. It was a great time had by all for a very good cause! Ladies participating were: Kathy Wickstrom, Andrea Smith, Cheryl Bourn, Dianne Baer and Patricia Naish.
